Thank you for visiting the East Texas Geriatric Education Center (ETGEC) website. The ETGEC, in partnership with the East Texas Area Health Education Centers (ETAHEC), specializes in providing education and training efforts targeting all health professionals and students in health professions. Its purpose is to address issues of health disparities of older populations in medically underserved areas. These populations include older minorities, elderly in rural communities, and institutionalized elderly, i.e., nursing home residents and older prisoners. By addressing the specific healthcare needs of these older populations, the ETGEC focuses on training of health professions students, healthcare professionals who educate and train students, and those who provide healthcare to the elderly. Basic Geriatrics and Gerontology Program
This program provides health care professionals and faculty who teach in health professions with a broad overview of geriatrics and gerontology. The 12 topics cover a wide range of information, issues and aspects of aging.
